: Just to provide a counterbalance to this and the subsequent posts. Although
: Rubicon isn't perfect, excluding the Salinger Plank it is absolutely the
: most faithful continuation of Bungie's original Marathon story of any
: completed 3rd party scenario out there today. Now you can talk about WMaiD
: being the true M4 - it's certainly a bridge between Infinity and Rubicon -
: but it hasn't been released yet. Heck, it's been months since Blayne
: sent me a beta to test, and that was many versions ago. Eternal is being
: released incrimentally and although it has promise, Mk I is little more
: than a teaser. I'm sticking with Rubicon as the reigning unofficial M4
: champ and leave it to the rest of you to release something to knock it off
: its throne.

It's that very concept that I've got a problem with - not so much that Rubicon of all things is "crowned King of the sequel-like Scenarios", but that ANY given scenario is being considered more or less "pseudo-official" or a "pseudo-sequel" than the others. You could say that given scenario might make a BETTER sequel, that it's story is more interesting and better composed, or as you say, that you think it is most faithful to the canon universe (which I disagree with, considering it nearly ignores the fact that Infinity ever happened, taking Mark Levin's interpretation of Infinity's relation to M2)... but crowning any one scenario "reigning unofficial M4 champ" or any such thing is a ridiculous concept and something that, IMO, should not be done.

I know we all must be getting bored and looking for new life in the Marathon Story Universe but trying to dress up fan fiction and scenario plots to look pseudocanon (even though everybody knows it's not and you're not actuallly trying to present it as canon) is like, well... like dressing a man up in drag and holding a serious beauty pageant. Everybody knows they're not women, you're obviously not trying to present them as real women, so why try to judge them by how hot of a woman they are? They're *not*. Likewise, no scenario is a true sequel, so there's no point in saying that one or another is a "better sequel".
