dude! i got stuck in the same place. totally killed the playing mood. :-P
luckily i save always like this and name the files "L1S1" and it stands for Level 1, Save 1 so if i save in another place in the map i call it "L1S2" so i can always go back if i end in some dead end or a bug or something.

Also, do you guys also notice the transparent pixels in the pfhor staff (in hand sprite) it's in the "crystal" (?) on the top of it. it bugs me :-P
