How the Minf timeline "fixes" the M2 one
Posted By: ErnieDate: 7/10/04 12:56 a.m.

In properly linking WMaiD to the rest of the Maraverse, I ran into some difficult questions.

These are made even more frustrating because I don't have my copy of Marathon 2 handy to check them against. Take kindness on my forgetful ignorance - when you become too wrapped up in the extended Marathon universe - you tend to forget what came before.

Firstly: I had the impression that the Marathon 2: Durandal storyline ends with the W'kkr being released (hence the M2 terminal where T'fears reaction to the chaos as it engulfs his fleet). However, I also recall the Marathon 2 end screen, which details Durandal's exploits- both [after M2, but before Rubicon] and [post Rubicon].

How does this make sense? Does the universe not wind up into the chaos? Bungie created this game and existed "as is" before D.A made Infinity. Did they make a game where the universe is slowly being destroyed by a being of chaos while Durandal still putters along seeking his answers?

Rubicon seems to exist in a Marathon 2 universe, but one where chaos was contained. However, Durandal is just Durandal, not the Toth-entity hybrid. Although the question has been proposed before: How does the events of Marathon Infinity fix the Marathon 2 ones?

Is it even possible that the Marathon 2 events could have been fixed without Durandal merging with the S'pht (Jjaro) AI Toth?

If so... this appears to be the sort of universe Rubicon exists in.
If Marathon:Infinity was the one and only modification of the one and only Marathon time line ... how can any other scenario made actually make sense? D.A effectively slammed the door shut on any scenario after making one where the main characters ascend to becoming Gods after saving the universe.

Answers (however plausible) will give me some much needed information for making WMaiD a true bridge between the events of the Trilogy, and that of Rubicon.

Thanks for every ones time. I really appreciate it!

Best regards,
-Blayne [ernie@bungie.org]
