In Response To: RED Volunteers: Noises in the Dark (Mark Levin)

: they can be very dangerous when there are no health
: chargers around, as on this level.

Actually, there is a 1x recharger next to the first switch you hit (in the Lower Left room as Mark mentions below). It's hidden behind what looks like a tiny "door" to the left of the switch. I don't know if Ian forgot about it and the player was never meant to know it is there, or if it was meant to be a secret.

: Pull out your flamethrower and hit the switch on the opposite wall, then
: immediately turn slightly to the right and start blasting.

I found it easier to head for the Lower Left room first instead of fighting these enemies now. You have to be quick, especially on Death Wish, but it is possible to dodge all the enemies outside the door and reach that Lower Left room. Once inside, you are generally safe from the enemies outside.

: Lower left: This is a good place to start because it's pretty small and
: contains a pattern buffer. The first thing to do as you enter is turn left
: and kill the exploding Beetle who charges you out of a hole in the wall.
: Next, a few Organics have managed to get themselves onto a ledge that
: offers very little maneuverability. If your flamethrower is nearly empty,
: use its tank, otherwise take them out with the pulse rifle. A few Beasts
: and flying Beetles will charge you as you go further into the room, kill
: them and also the Turtle up on the ledge. You finish the area by looking
: to the right, then running up the stairs, along the ledge, into the hole
: with the copper Beetle, and onto the ledge with the Turtle, where you will
: find some shotgun ammo, a pattern buffer, the first of the 3 switches, and
: a terrified Pfhor.

Also don't forget that the Beasts are berserkers. I found that if you stand just inside the doorway to this room (but not too close), you are generally safe from the enemies outside. While the enemies inside can and do approach you, it is much easier to defeat them from this vantage. If you are lucky, one of the Beasts will berserk and take out most of the rest of the enemies.
