Yep. It means Green, hence the joke.
Apparently there's a green melon in Japan that the Japanese call the... green melon, or "midori" ("green" in Nihongo). They make an alcohol out of it, and unlike Europeans who seem to call their drinks weird names - grape booze is "wine", grain drinks are "beers" or "ales", etc - the Japanese seem to just call their melon drink what it's made from - midori.
This leads to a great little in-joke for geeks familiar with Star Trek (even if you're not actually a trekkie). The midori bottle doesn't tell you what it's made from, other than listing "midori" as the only ingridient, which is not useful. So I went on a quest to find out what it was made from, discovered the above, and came back to my friends to tell them what I had discovered:
"It is green."
You see that's a running gag in Star Trek. In an early TOS episode, Scotty is trying to get Kirk drunk so that some alien thing possessing his body will be incapacitated. They run out of scotch and so start into the synthahol. Kirk asks "what is that?", Scotty looks at the green drink, sniffs it, and replies "It's green."
Later on in one of the TNG movies (would have to be Generations then), Data is serving Scotty a glass of green synthahol. When Scotty asks what it is, Data look at it, sniffs it, and replies "It is green."
So, yeah. Midori. It is green.
