Want feedback on idea

Well, slightly more than an idea actually. I've recently started work on a new game engine (For SDL/OpenGL) which is fundamentally very similar to Marathon (Conatains no AO code), to the extent that a scenario importer would be piss-easy to make. I would have made changes to Aleph One instead but some of the core code is incompatible with some features, eg. position-independant side portals. However the effort is probably worth it, because it would allow all sorts of crazy crap like never-ending hallways, also I'd like to add a lot of the things whose absence cause the Marathon engine to be considered, how should I put it, outdated.
So let's have an opinion poll: if there was a (finished) engine that allowed you to import maps/scenarios directly into it, was modern in terms of graphical capabilities, more flexible than Marathon (esp. with double subtractions) and open source, but above all Marathon-like, would you use it in favour of Aleph One?
