An OT MSN for Macintosh question

This is an off topic question for this forum, but I need help:
I can't use (nor have I been able to for some time now) Microsoft Messenger for my Macintosh.

I use Mac OS 8.6 on my Powermac 6500/250 - my parents have OS 9.1 on thier 6500/275. MSN refuses to work unless you have at least 9.2. The 6500 Powermac can't upgrade past OS 9.1.

I'm at university without MSN I'm horribly detached from social things outside of face to face planning of events and get togethers.

Are they're any Mac MSN clients that still work under 8.6/9.1?
I've tried some off of versiontracker.com - but they suffer from, well - not working.

Please Marathonstoryforum, you're my only hope.
