Maybe, but I was thinking the original 343 GS was the one that hitched a ride on the Longsword at the end of the MAW. Don't you think it strange that a fully operational (well as far as we know), Longsword was on the runway ready for take off AND Cortana just happened for find it despite the fact that "other" taps into the POA system were detected?
If this was public information, I think the other taps would have known about the Longsword (provided that it was something they cared about). Anyway, 343 GS (the real one) could have decided that was his only way off of Halo with the imminent destruction of Halo soon to come. All 343 GS needed was for the MC to make it the Longsword.
I'm not saying that 343 GS couldn't get off of Halo himself, but maybe he knew he couldn't get out of the POA blast area without help, perhaps Halo's teleportation grid doesn't work in the ship. So 343 GS planned for his escape and led the MC and Cortana to the Longsword.
I don't quite know how Foehammer fits into things because that was the original escape plan. Maybe 343 GS was planning to take the Longsword himself off of Halo and the MC just showed up after Foehammer was shot down? 343 GS then just hid somewhere in or on the Longsword.
