In Response To: Re: Multiple Outbreaks & Installation 04's history (Wado SG) : There have been at least two outbreaks in ancient history. With 343 GS saying
Now I always interpreted this in the context that the current release of the Flood is also a "catastrophic outbreak", so the previous outbreak would be the last one, i.e. last = previous. But what exactly does 343GS mean by "outbreak"? Does he use the term in a disease kind of way, like an outbreak of SARS? This ties in nicely with the idea of the Flood as a disease or contagion, which is reinforced by his use of the term "vector" when talking about the potential hosts. It would also mean that there could have been only one outbreak that caused the Halo(s) to be built, it was fired, the outbreak was contained, and samples were kept on Halo for study. If 343GS means breaking out of confinement, then this may refer to the samples kept on Halo. They got out (somehow), the Halo was fired, the threat neutralised, and samples were kept (again) on Halo. This implies that there may have been a previous outbreak that caused the Halos to be built and fired, which means that there were at least two firings of Halo. I don't think that 343GS's statements supports this second scenario as well as it does the first, if you take my interpretation of "last". There's still wiggle room, but I think it's stretching things. Oh, and about the Covenant potentially glassing Halo - the Laowon tried to nuke Starhammer, but there were defence systems in place that protected it. I wouldn't be surprised if Halo had similar capabilities - maybe the blue beam towers? Perhaps the Covenant tried to do this before, and learned that it won't work? Ciarán.
