In Response To: 343GS quotes and thoughts *long* (Mark Simmons) "Why would the Flood want to change the atmosphere...? Surely it would benefit them to maintain an atmosphere which supports their 'food', not change it to one that would harm it in any way." This is one of the inconsistencies I've noticed regarding the flood's actions. The stranded Marine in 343 GS says he avoided the flood by "playing dead." This would give me the impression that a dead organism is useless to the flood, since they cannot infect it to become one of them. But during the "Keyes" level, Cortana goes out of her way to point out that the Flood are piling up covenant bodies in the corner. The Flood never hesitate to launch rockets at you either. So are dead covenant bodies able to be salvaged for some reason that dead human bodies cannot? I also never understood how starving the flood was the only effective way to kill them if a shotgun blast to the chest did such a great job of making them play dead. Are the flood warriors you shoot down not really dead? Is it a case of the host organism being disabled, but the flood spore that infected them is still alive? Does killing the host organism merely render them immobile rather than actually killing them as well? Did any flood manage to learn how to use 343 GS' teleportation grid before Master Chief destroyed everything? If Guilty Spark managed to get off of the ring, did anyone or anything else also escape? More questions than answers.
