Excellent. Nice job. So I had like a ton of stuff I could say about this, but I will keep it short. The sequence of events could have been the following: 1) Last catastrophic Flood outbreak stopped by Forerunners but this left many planets uninhabitable. As a result, Halo is built (or refitted) to study and contain the Flood and samples kept there. 2) Most of the Forerunners were wiped out in the last outbreak and those that are still around are so few that their gene pool is in danger of running out. So the Forerunners seed planets with life, then they go into stasis on the Halos and wait until later when these seeded planets yield enough life for the Forerunners to have a big enough gene pool to reproduce again. 3) Flood released on Halo due to 343 GS incompetence or something like that. So what if the Flood were released thousands of years ago. The Flood could have battled the monitor and sentinels and killed off all life on Halo. 4) To hide his incompetence and to contain the Flood, 343 GS finds a reclaimer to fire Halo's weapon (any reclaimer might do). With no more food on Halo the escaped Flood (millions of them) would have gone into hibernation. However, not all the Halos followed suit and fired because, well I don't know, some protocol wasn't exactly followed correctly and they didn't all fire. 5) 343 GS spends thousands of years trying to clean up the mess but is not finished when the Covenant arrive and discover the Flood and it all starts over again. 6) 343 GS decides he must fire Halo (again). 7) His plans foiled by Cortana and the MC... Halo 2 we go back to Halo looking for 343 GS or Forerunners in stasis or both. Other things to speculate: The Flood evolve to a form that releases spores into the air, releasing the spores to spread infection could be a method of altering the atmosphere. Also, there may be more than one 343 GS. He may have "cloned" himself to have someone to talk to all those years and to have someone to do the basic duties of a monitor while the original 343 GS went about studying the Flood or other ventures. It could have been one of his clones that originally released the Flood due to incompetence. Anyway, it could be a different 343 GS in the 343 GS level than in the Library. 343 GS might have assumed that the other 343 GS told you things you needed to know. |
