Good point.

I doubt that the ribbons were randomly selected. Considering they all make sense for Keyes' character.

Right now the Airforce is close to the space program, and certainly if the military did make a jump into space warfare, the Airforce is a closer fit than the Navy.

You'd need pilots (especially early on), not people who steer boats. They may have merged the two branches of service, but kept using the Airforce ribbons.

You could make the argument that the pilots who fly Dropships and Longswords would be Airforce, and Large Starship captain/crew would be Navy.
