| Why 343GS thinks MC should know what Halo does | |

I've been thinking about those symbols in the rocks on Sigma Octanus a lot recently, and I came up with a possible explanation for why 343GS thinks we already know what the Halo does. What if the rocks contain not just the location of Halo, but also warnings about the Flood, and instructions on where the Halo is, what it does, and how to use it. Any race that can work out the symbols in full would understand what the implications are of firing Halo. From 343GS's perspective, anyone that has arrived at Halo must have been following the instructions in the rocks, and therefore understands the implications if the Flood escape and Halo is fired. He is then understandably surprised when he discovers that MC doesn't know the import of what they are about to do. This could also explain his comments about the type of weaponry we bring, and the class of our armour. If we had read the manual we would know that we would need better weaponry, etc. Now, there's a possibility that ONI has fully deciphered all the symbols in the rock, and that they want to get their hands on the Flood - the ultimate weapon that can turn the tide in the war against the Covenant. Perhaps this was what the Circumference was going to do? It's also possible that the Covenant have fully deciphered the symbols, and are trying to locate all the Halos, maybe so that they can wipe out the Flood entirely, or perhaps just to get control of them just in case someone else (like the humans) get their hands on them. This still doesn't explain why 343GS seems to think he's met you before :-( Ciarán.
