This Flood form is indeed unique and specialized for pilot or navigator functions most likely. As for the common consciousness/hive mind angle I suppose that is still up for debate.

This question just occurred to me...How would that thing actually pilot the ship? Presumedly there are knobs and levers and blinking lights and buzzers to be manipulated. You know, standard starship piloting apparatus and such.

Perhaps "the blob" uses it's tentacles...a more central location on the bridge would seem to be appropriate however.

Perhaps it commands a few "Sulu" floods that do the actual button pushing...although it does seem to be all alone in there.

Perhaps it interfaces with ships systems directly, physically grafting itself into the ships circuitry/AI. That's a scary thought.

That would mean that not even Cortana or 343GS would be safe from the flood. Just speculation, but that would be another good reason for the Reclaimer fail-safe protocol.

Interesting how the Flood are all over the Library so quick after they're release. It would suggest that they at least know that the Index is a bad thing from the Flood perspective.
