Doesn't she hold the index in a cutscene? Seems to me collison detection may very well have been integrated. Plus who's to say it wasn't already in there for some of the cut storyline? As a central character - it's entirely possible that she was done early and fully when the game was to span 20 levels instead of 10. Just my 2 cents, but no need to beat up on this guy. Try it yourself, and if you fail to duplicate, then you may be skeptical.
