In Response To: The Perils of Importing (Matt) : Unfortunately, this is a situation where we're not going to be able to make
You haven't answered the earlier question. If you were able to make PAL 50Hz work with PAL 60Hz, why couldn't you have made at least the PAL 60Hz mode compatible with the NTSC version of the game? After all, PAL-50 vs PAL-60 has the same timing issues as PAL-50 vs NTSC. It seems that the PAL-60 version has been "broken" in order to work with the PAL-50 version. Which I think is a big mistake and should never have happened. Look at Sega Europe's stance on PAL-50 vs PAL-60 and Phantasy Star Online. They don't allow PAL-50 players connect to PAL-60 servers or the US or Japan servers. As a result, there is only one PAL-50 server (which is always empty) and about five PAL-60 servers. This suggests to me that far more players actually use PAL-60 over PAL-50. And I don't recall half as many people complaining about this as I have about people complaining about the PAL-60 version of Halo. I personally think that the PAL-60 version should have been left with the same timings as the NTSC version so they would have been compatible. If a user wanted to connect to a PAL-50 Xbox, then they only have to go into the dashboard to set their Xbox back to PAL-50. You would then have compatibility with both versions and the PAL-60 mode wouldn't have been crippled. That way, everyone would be happy. |
