In Response To: Re: Update "Tags" disk (bk227865) : why on earth make game speed dependend on refresh rate ? You're confusing the issue. The issue ISN'T the game speed when running in 60Hz mode. The issue in question is connecting an NTSC Xbox with a PAL version. NTSC has a sync pulse of 60Hz and runs at 30fps more or less. (actually 29.97)
So, in order to make the two different formats talk to each other in a gaming situation, there would have to be a pull-up or pull-down in framerate on one of the systems which wouldn't be practical. (real time conversion in a game would waste valuable CPU cycles that could be better used rendering graphics) What would end up happening then, one of the systems would be forced to run at a different framerate just in order to keep in sync with the other system. Since BOTH versions have been optimised for their respective framerates, this just isn't possible. The walk/run/vehicle speeds in the PAL version have been "tweaked" to run at 25fps. If you tell this game to run at 30fps, then the game balance is gone. (obviously the opposite is true as well if you have a 30fps game run at 25fps) Make sense? -Spu | |
