I got the impression (i may be mistaken) : that they used the default ground type (dirt) and colored it red because : it was the inside of the engine, and the explosions cause a cloud of dirt, : just like they would anywhere else. : I still wonder why they used the default ground type, and if the dirt splash : was an intended feature... Thats where all the dirt from the library went!! 343GS mustve put it in there like dusting it under a rug! (sneaky SOB)
