It is possible that the Forerunner's genetic ancestors were stuck on Earth somehow, I suppose. Remember the S'pht, the good ol' S'pht, whose home-world was lost? Maybe it's possible that humans were client races of the Forerunner at some point? That could explain things like why the ring is built to human scale when the only Forerunner sentience we see is an alien jock strap.
But, if you're saying the Forerunner use the ring to survive the pulses, I've still gotta ask where they went and how they lost their technology if we're to belive they got to Earth.
