How does halo know if you're "smart" enough? Sentient is a pretty broad term.

Sentient is defined as:
1 : responsive to or conscious of sense impressions
2 : AWARE
3 : finely sensitive in perception or feeling

I would say that a great many animals as well as humans would fall into this category.

This halo thingamajig is a pretty amazing thing if it can plot brainwaves and mass of all the creatures in it's blast radius.
