GS was talking bout the Flood in that passage. The Forerunners weren't even mentioned. To speculate that half of that passage refers to the Flood, half to the Forerunners makes no logical sense. : I'm simply running on the idea that GS : assumes you know what he means. GS always acts that way, you'll notice... : as if you've met before. Every passage where this pops up is logically consistent from beginning to end. No flitting around from subject to subject without explanation. Now, I like the plot point that linking the humans to the Forerunners somehow. It is consistent with GS's later utterances, and consistent with the scope of the story. However, I don't think that this passage by GS should be taken as the linchpin for this argument since its meaning is open to debate. GS could have changed topics in mid-passage, but he could also be referring to the Flood throughout. MakeMineRed
