If the Flood doesn't : exist in the rest of the galaxy obviously it was either created on Halo or : contained there. Clearly they therefore had the technology at the time to : have destroyed it. I'm back to the library tomorrow in hopes of finding my : precious Spark quote, but we're still lacking a logical explanation for : Halo's massive destructive capability... I think the only thing that makes : sense is to "contain" the Flood if it leaves Halo, and that only : makes sense if there is a reason to keep the Flood around. It can't be a : weapon because clearly they have WAY more effective weapons if they can : destroy all life within 25,000 light years. It could be a pet research : project, but then why wouldn't they still be there studying it or have : cleaned up Halo when they were done? This last is the real question - why not clean up when they're through? I mean, wiping out life from 25,000 light years is a pretty major step to take (especially in a relatively automated system) - how could the Forerunners guarantee that THEY weren't in that 25,000 light year radius? I mean, what if they were heading back for a check on the Flood, or something? They're 3 light years out, and some big idiot in a green suit sticks that index into the board... wham! They're toast! It's sort of like a parent heading out to work, leaving his loaded shotgun on the floor next to his kid's bed. I don't get it.
