... was my fault. It was the prototype Flood level, first one to use them, and at the time we only had the Elite forms and the exploding Carrier forms. No Infection forms, no Monitor, no Sentinels, etc.

The limited number of enemies available, coupled with the immutable size of the level (we talked about removing a floor, but it just wasn't feasible) made for a lot of repetition. It's better now that all of the Flood forms are in and the Monitor is sharing with you what is arguably the most interesting and most important dialogue in the game.

The goal was to create a level that felt like "If I Had a Rocket Launcher..." in Marathon, or the first part of "Begging for Mercy Makes Me Angry!", where it's just you, your shotgun, and a the need to keep on moving. If I had to all to do again, I'm sure the level would be shorter, but no less difficult.

*shrugs*

Some people liked it, others loathed it. Ah well, live and learn.
