In Response To: Visualizing the Halo Universe: Round 7 (Postmortem) With how flickle my art muse is when it comes to wanting to work on something (if it's anything at all), I'll post this now so (hopefully), you'll get the gist of what I am going for.
My thought process: I took cues from our own insect species where the queen, really, doesn't look that much different from the other members of her species if you ignore the abdomen and overall size, so she looks rather ordinary for that reason. She lacks the arm and thigh 'plates' because I was thinking she wouldn't need them since she'll spend the vast majority of her life in the hive itself. Her abdomen is based off of termite queens. I did add a couple of things to her to make her a little different. Longer feelers to better get messages from her charges and the tendrals on the back. Those tendrals I was thinking were used for, initially, teasing suitors during her mating flight: after settled into a hive, they could be used as an additional means of communication (or punishment: I can see her smacking a drone over the head with them).
