Visualizing the Halo Universe Round 7: Covenant Remember, feedback on artwork is appreciated and encouraged. Subject: Yanme'e Queen Specifications: - Think about the anatomy of Yanme'e Drones - Include the elongated abdomen - Look to real-world insect hives/colonies for ideas - (Optional) include a Drone for scale Sources: Contact Harvest pg. 381 Details: Since Halo 2, we've fought the warrior insects known as Drones. In truth, the flying soldiers that we have spent years shooting at are only a small part of a much larger caste system, the collective species referred to as Yanme'e. Because they are insect-like and naturally live within constructed hives, it is known that they also reproduce similar to ants, bees, or termites... through the use of a single, dominant female which controls the genetics and (in this case) politics of the whole hive. In the extended fiction, this queen has only been mentioned once, and very briefly. However, from this description we understand that these queens are very similar to those seen in insect hives and colonies on Earth. The Yanme'e queen is much larger than the basic drone, with an extended abdomen for laying eggs. Due to its excessive size, it had to be brought in on a cushioned litter carried by subservient, flightless males. Extra Credit: Depict the queen in its hive, with any of the other unseen Yanme'e castes. - - - Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! Remember you have two weeks to submit your entries.
