There's information out there that suggests killing the 8 elites spawns some ammo crates, but that the supposed placement of the crates (in the next area) causes them to despawn when you try to reach them, because you cross a loading zone. There's no proof to support, or bust that information. A lot of people have spent a lot of time looking for something different in the level after killing the elites. So far, nothing. And the description of the egg doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that there is, in fact, something. Very sketchy.
