16:9 is what's also called letterbox or widescreen, and 4:3 is what older monitors use (older TVs kind of use 4:3 but the effective ratio is closer to 5:4 because they cut off the sides, because the signal used to get messy on the sides; also I think 4:3 monitors are still made in low supply)

as for the buttons, very mysterious indeed, and intriguing, and a bunch of other things... I'm going to set aside some time to check this out tomorrow (or I guess technically later today)
