You can skip about 70% of the Trench sequence. There are a few trigger/loading zones along the way that you must hit from nearby (underneath is fine) to load the rest of the level, but then you can eventually despawn enough behind you to get in from the back end of what's left of the trench run near the need. Using this trick you can significantly cut some corners and of course save time getting to the end. But I think it would also rather make the section altogether a bit boring.
