Most consoles *aren't* just game machines--Xbox 360s are used more for media playback than video games these days. It's entirely justified to consider that factor if you're deciding on a game. Personally, if I want to play a good Zelda I've still got Oracle of Ages/Seasons, Link's Awakening, and ALttP sitting on my first-gen Gameboy Advance that Nintendo was nice enough to make sure has lasted for 10 years. I don't feel the need to play another iteration of the same formula (never played Skyward Sword, but I gave up halfway through Twilight Princess.) I think Nintendo's idea of staying a generation of hardware behind to deliver something else is an interesting one, but it's predicated on making a sea change every cycle and getting gamers to follow along. For the Kinect's faults, I do think Microsoft was smart to make motion control an add-on element rather than the main selling point.
