In Response To: Purposeful inconsistency (Leviathan) : The trade-off involved with accepting this approach as a fan? Although I'm : less frustrated by the changes, I'm also not paying attention to the : designs and details that I used to revel in anymore, because I know : they're going to just keep changing every few months. Man, realizing that is, frankly, depressing. I never really minded the subtler design changes that bothered most people. During combat, I couldn't tell the difference. My mental short-hand for Grunts in the Halo series has always been "cute, little, timid guys with vibrant pyramid armor and usually a cute gas mask and high-pitched voices." That was consistent from CE to Reach (though Reach did de-cute them a little too much for me). It never broke my short-hand. If you just showed me, by themselves, the silhouette or the colors or the voice, I'd instantly know it was a Grunt. The Halo 4 Grunts? Ugly, squat, mean guys with pale humpback armor, no gas mask, and scary robot voice. It's not just that it's inconsistent. It's that, because it's so different, none of the appeal that the original Grunt had carried over. If they're still appealing in some way, I haven't discovered it yet. Now they're just annoying.
