In Response To: Halo Designs through the years. (Rice) Seeing the Halo 4 grunt alongside the other previous iterations really brings home the feeling of disappointment for Halo 4's art style. Along with the changes to the Elites (who have lost their athletic, agile appearance from Reach) and the ridiculous new style of Jackal, it feels like they're throwing away well developed designs in favour of the new for no other reason than not invented here. At least, that's how a lot of the capricious changes feel. Witness the Elites: And then the absurd new appearance in Halo 4: Suddenly the Elite has transformed into a far more squat-looking, muscle bound tank of a creature, and the face is almost entirely exposed, again taking away from the sleek appearance they had previously. Combined with their absolutely moronic AI, what was once a fearsome opponent is now more or less boring cannon fodder.
