In Response To: Re: Bungie speaks... on Behavioral Game Design (Chewbaccawakka) : An interesting argument, though I would hazard to say that when I play a : game, I play how I want to. And then I go back and see things like : achievements and what not, and I try playing that way for a while. It's : not so much YOU MUST PLAY THIS WAY to me as it's "hey, you might ALSO : enjoy playing this way". Your view could be held, except increasingly their way gives rewards which are linked to being able to continue playing in a fun or interesting fashion. Look at Spartan Points. If you don't like to do the things that get you spartan points, you are most definitely missing out by not being able to buy additional loadouts. The more the reward affects your ability to play, the less strong your interpretation becomes. In fact, your interpretation works best when there are no rewards attached at all, which is how games used to be designed.
