God you're a purist... So you take the joy of creation from players, but you give the joy of participation back to so many more players. I get that people are motivated for self-chosen goals much more than ones imposed from outside, but all that means is that you (as a designer) should never present speed running as something a player must do, but as just one of many possible options. Surely you don't think the only reason Mirror's Edge's speed run community isn't as strong was because there was a time-trial mode built into the game?
