Are you talking about the concentric rings, the octants or something else? The concentric rings have always been there, in some way or another, and have always helped me estimate the range of the contacts. I heavily use it when in close-quarter fights, for example, so to judge which contact I have a chance of fragging before I perish (having sensitivity turned to 10 helps a lot too). The octants help you estimate a bit how much you'd have to turn, since it kindda guides your mind towards the quarter-angles. It does get a bit redundant once you slap the FoV triangle in the motion tracker, though...
