In Response To: Present thoughts about the future *long* (Hedgemony) : Hello. My name is Hedgemony. I first joined this site in 2002. I have seen : this community grow in so many great ways. I have seen community members : rise and many who drifted away. I am one of the members who first joined : because Halo:CE had this great backdrop that I wanted to explore more. For : me, that is what is at the heart of a great Halo game. Adventure and : exploration. : Fast forward to now and when I look back on all of the Halo games I : appreciate them in many different ways. But that was then. All of the : elements that drew me into the universe in the beginning had become : diluted over time. Large alien worlds, deeper mysteries, exploration. Halo : for me was always about going to an alien world, kicking ass and then : blowing shit up. And that changed with Reach. It became all about fighting : an invasion. I've missed that "Boy's own" adventure element for : years now. : I recently retired myself from the Halo community to answer questions that I : had about what it means to me to be a Halo fan. What brings me back? What : do I want from a Halo game? Why is HBO ripping itself apart with constant : streams of like/dislike posts. If you take time off from HBO and come back : you see this: "I hate that. Fuck you 343." : "I agree. This isn't Halo." : "I agree with your agreement. HATE." : "This isn't Bungie-like." : And that is all you see. That is all that new people would see too if they : happened upon HBO. Not exactly going to spark interesting conversation. : It's also making some intelligent posters look completely stupid too. : Is this based on having Bungie helm the series for so long and it's just : separation anxiety? Are people so worried that 343 will fail them? Are : folks just so fixed in their ways after Halo has remained so : "samey" for so long that automatically change is bad? Or are : people so eager to play the game and see what 343 have done that they are : expressing their concerns in worried ways? Don't answer this here, ask : yourselves this question. : My time away on the mountain made me realize this. Everything I have seen so : far from 343 is exactly what I want from a Halo game. All of those : elements that brought me into the series are now showing up in Halo4 : screenshots. I wanted a new Halo game that was fresh. Comparing Halo4 to : older titles is inevitable. Here, I feel that it is unfair and even unwise : to do so. A new team, new vision, new ways to play. : No one is trying to take my "Halo" from me. All signs point to 343 : wanting to give me "my" Halo back. And then something new. How : can I hate this? I really can't. Recently I was playing Vanquish (if you : haven't then I insist you do) and I thought to myself, "That would be : cool if it was in Halo." How many games have you done this with as : well? If 343 take what works from other games and adds that to the core : experience of Halo then I'm not going to complain. : I ask the community to take a deep breath. Not take everything so seriously : and realize that what you say does have an affect on community harmony and : those who find their way here to read what has always been the standard : for HBO. Intelligent conversation and ideas without having to resort to : name calling, auto responses of "this sucks." Try looking upon : Halo4 with fresh eyes. Appreciate the artists and people who are making a : game with you in mind. Change is good. Change is healthy for Halo. : Halo is moving into the future and unfortunately I see people leaving : themselves behind. And it's not 343's fault at all. : -Hedge. "History is a relentless master.
