Even in games, how well would the story go if say in Halo 1 you didn't slowly but surely work your way along, playing through, eventually finding Jenkin's helmet and watching what happened with the Flood? What if Cortana just hacked into the Covenant battlenet and decided to let you know that the Cartographer didn't matter because they found a control room so let's go there and oh no Captain Keyes found something evil and not Covenant and we're all doomed so let's go kill it. Pacing destroyed, suspense destroyed, story destroyed. No build up. Showing, not telling, still works in video games as far as the story is concerned.

It'd also be a great way for 343 Industries to market at this point. All of this "telling" seems to be backfiring, so maybe it's about time they showed us something for real. Some actual multiplayer gameplay. No need to provide context. We'll see things, we'll speculate, we'll wonder, some will hate, some will love, and eventually things will become clear (ideally).

Well when the words are quoting the direct thought processes of 343 Industries in some of these decisions, it's not like it's just speculation. And when 343 Industries then has to do quality control via podcast, someone screwed up (whether the company or the magazine).

I'm not convinced of that. I've been going on about how 343 Industries has sucked at marketing for over a year now, and this isn't doing much to make me think otherwise, especially when the magazine appears to be directly quoting.
