In Response To: Re: And herein lies MLG's downfall.... (Hawaiian Pig) : No. It is one of many factors. Actually, the reason is not popularity. It's : about sustainable popularity. Eh, I already understand the reasons why Starcraft is more popular, and I don't care. I cut off my comment because it turned into a critical statement about MLG's (mis)handling of their Halo league. Yeah, Halo is less suited to esports, but MLG took that game, altered the settings so much so that it was basically a different game, and lose a large portion of their potential audience by default. The thing is that a lot of the MLG community players, and seemingly the MLG tournment designers, obsess over making a game that is more innately competitive, while not really focusing on making it a great game to WATCH playing. Which at the end of the day, it's a spectator sport, with sponsors and prizes and so numbers (sustainable) are important, and they've thrown away vast sections of the audience in their obsessions about designing a new halo-sub-game rather than a Halo Spectator Tournament.
