Honestly, I'm someone who has held a lot of theories about the Haloverse that I know Bungie never seriously considered. I don't particularly care about people diverging from what the creators of a story intended.
My problem with the indoctrination theory is that, really, it's the only theory there is if we want the ending to make any gorram sense. Somehow, it has to happen between leaving the Illusive Man's base (when the VI confirmed that you weren't indoctrinated) and ascending into the Citadel.
Simply put, I wouldn't mind one ending where Shepard was indoctrinated. I would love an ending where Shepard built Tali a house on Rannoch. How about an ending where Shepard succumbs to his/her wounds shortly after stopping the Illusive Man from shooting Anderson and
It's not a bittersweet ending, simply a terribly written one. Your decisions do not factor into the ending. The "Synthesis" option may be available only to those who collected X amount of war assets, but there is no reasonable connection between the effort and the payoff.
There's other reasons to be angry about the endings, and I can name a couple of other problems with Mass Effect 3. I'll disagree with anybody who likes the endings (though I'd love to compare notes with them) and I'm looking into making a donation through Retake ME3.
Mass Effect 3 was a great game, but the ending was enough for me to return the game and shelve the older entries, for the time being.
