In Response To: Re: Why Halo's Objective Gametypes Suck - Part 1 (RC Master) : Thanks. :) : Yes, but that was on LAN, with familiar players. I've only participated in Halo 1 LAN games 2, maybe 3 times total. Halo PC was where it was at. Represent, yo. : Assault was a Halo 2+ gametype. Assault as we know it now, yes. The original assault was reverse CTF. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Assault : Some have suggested that, but that wouldn't suddenly solve the Flag
True. But it solves the problem of other, more-crappy gametypes. How? : LOL. 2 Objective playlists, one all Flag, and one everything else? The
That's how. And I fail to see the problem with this. Too big to fail? NOPE. : Yes. What part wasn't clear? In-game, the only thing players are taught
The wording was a little unclear. I wasn't 100% sure what your summary sentence was referring to in the main article. And the objective should be worth more cR even at the lowest ranks, I agree. : Team A is comprised of the 4 best players in the world. Team B is comprised
: In both situations Team B got destroyed and Team A won easily. But which
: This is a REGULAR occurance (to varying degress) in objective gametypes. Theoretically, TrueSkill should prevent that kind of bullcrap from every happening in matchmaking. Of course, we know that TrueSkill is TrueShit©®™, and that is never the case. Now, to prevent this from happening, my suggestions were 1. The time bonus, perhaps have a decreasing bonus for each second, or perhaps even a multiplier akin to what we currently have in Campaign. Heck, you could even bring back the handicap options from Halo 2 and increase that multiplier, as a sort of skull-like effect. Additionally, make CTF games to 1 cap only. You're right -- many teams get 2 of 3 caps and then take the last one and grief for many minutes more. By making the games only go to 1 cap, you can achieve a few things: 1. Faster game turnover in matchmaking (good or bad, depending on your POV), and 2. Increase the risk of griefing. If there is any chance that a player might make it across the map to kill the flag carrier, griefing becomes significantly more dangerous, especially if you then turn on touch return, which I really miss from Halo 1 a lot. : That's one thing you can do, but while many people are motivated highly by
Not everyone is, but you're not going to solve every problem with CTF (and/or other objective gametypes). There are always going to be flaws with whatever solution you pick. People are always going to be pricks. Making there a credit incentive to not be a professional d-bag in a CTF game is going to deter a lot of people from doing so, but of course it won't get everyone. Some people are still going to reside in mommy's basement for the rest of their lives and grief people in Halo. You can't fix everything. I think making a significant credit incentive to not be a jerk would remedy many of these situations. : Because risks often end in failure and playing it safe leads to long
I feel like a lot of the problems with Hemmorhage 2-Flag CTF deals with the increased power of numerous weapons and the abundance of vehicles. The best 2-Flag CTF on Blood Gulch was with Warthogs and Ghosts only. Vehicles did not explode. If you could take out one of the enemy's vehicles near your base, it was a tool that your team could then utilize. It wasn't a burning piece of crap that would explode with the next pistol round impact. Your average, non-explosive weapon in Halo 1 didn't have any sort of force behind it. Team DMR-shooting a warthog can easily take it out in Halo Reach, but Halo 1 you had to be darn good with a pistol to be able to stop a warthog. And if the gunner saw you first, you had no shot. The Warthog and the Ghost were powerful. Relative to everything else on Hemmorhage, they've been nerfed. The idea was to balance the sandbox a little more than in previous games, but if anything, that's only ensured that you have more stalemates on maps like Hemmorhage. My suggestion for CTF on that map at least: No Wraith, no Mongooses. Warthogs and Ghosts only. Invincible vehicles. Basically make it more like Halo 1. : This is a two-Flag problem, 1-Flag doesn't suffer from it and neither does
No argument here. :)
