| MJOLNIR: snake skin edition | |

In Response To: Re: Master Chief pics leaked on Neogaf. (Archilen) To elaborate my issues with the undersuit, I think the outward appearance of the MJOLNIR armor is supposed to give an all-around feeling of a high-tech, state-of-the-art combat suit. Even the 343i artists said they were going for that. What it shouldn't look like is cheap fake leather, rubber or spandex. However, most of the Halo 4 undersuit reminds me of a plastic imitation of snake skin, while the gloves look unmistakably like rubber gloves with some bits of armor slapped on. The appearance should serve to establish the suit is made of layers upon layers of advanced polymers with their own distinctive surface patterns. The Reach armor design gets this across very well; there's variety between the undersuit materials, and it never looks like cheap cosplay stuff. The abdominal area works particularly well. Even the Halo Wars version looks rather good despite the boring hexagon pattern plastered over it; it's like the honeycomb pattern is the default solution these days when you want to have an "advanced" or "hi-tech" look, but it's pretty overused by now. With the Halo 4 design, it looks like they used a boring pattern that might as well be a Photoshop pre-set because they were too lazy to give the suit a more varied texture.
