In Response To: Re: Why can't Halo Wars be on the PC too? (FyreWulff) : Not to mention what you're talking about is needed against an AI that can : execute simultaneous commands across an entire map at once. In Halo Wars, : the AI is limited to a single screen like you are and must "look : around" the map like you do, so being able to do cross-map : micromanagement would make the game hilariously easy against AI in : multiplayer. At no point in Wars are you at a disadvantage due to your : controls. Your defence for this game is that it handicaps your adversaries so that you can still beat it with limited control? I liked Halo Wars. I liked Halo Wars because it had some lovely cutscenes in between some decidedly non-challenging segments in which massing troops and steamrolling was the best option. That, however, is not a strategy game. A strategy game involves developing a plan, executing it, and modifying it as the variables change. There aren't many games in the RTS genre that allow this (Star Craft, unless you're "pro," isn't even on this list). Halo Wars bothers me because the Halo universe has every necessary aspect for a real strategy game - an enemy who is technically superior in every way but has a few weaknesses that can be exploited, built-in risk-reward (do I commit these forces to save those civilians, or do I keep them in reserve for a more dire need?). What we got used none of that. Part of the reason for this is that no one is building good strategy games these days. Part of the reason is that it was developed with a handicap. No matter how you spin it, the keyboard and mouse give you far more options for control than a controller, in this genre more than any other. You simply do not have the agility and variety with the thumb-stick and triggers to implement the necessary features to make a strategy game that is complex.
