They could produce good games if the right studios handled the games. A ton of fringe Mario games don't have much involvement from Miyamoto, and if Rare hadn't been ruined by MS and a poor internal set up, I'd say they could do it. See Banjo-Kazooie or the 3 SNES Donkey Kong Country games for Mario style or pretty much anything else from the SNES time through the early 360 for mostly high quality across a lot of genres. Nintendo could handle a Halo in the same circumstances. The first-party Nintendo teams couldn't do it right, story would be lacking more than we're used to, though gameplay would be solid. But Retro, now owned by Nintendo, could handle it. The parts of Halo games that aren't set on Earth are pretty similar to the Metroid Prime games in some ways, and a Halo made in that style could be great. Metroid is the prefect example here for Nintendo's abilities with a "mature" sci-fi series, in that as long as Sakamoto doesn't get too much control like with Other M, they can be done well. Since a couple of leads from Retro's Metroid Prime days are at 343 working on Halo 4, maybe we'll see a fraction of this idea. MC exploring the Forerunner Legendary planet in an open hub based world like Metroid and ODST, with Cortana along the whole time like Halo 1 would be awesome for me. The vague anti-Nintendo sentiment in some of these responses is a bit surprising.
