| What's actually causing the snowballing? | |

In Response To: Re: TU Needle Rifle - it's pretty good *vid* (DEEP NNN) Seems like we're complaining about getting spawnkilled, and also complaining about Reach having too large a skill gap. Hold on a second. Reach has ALWAYS involved a fair chunk of DMR/nerfle usage, at least in playlists that use them as spawn weapons. Not as much as it does now, but it's never been as far-separated from former Halo's balancings as some people like to claim. Tons of players, even in vanilla Reach, had 70%+ of their competitive MP non-PW non-vehicle kills consisting purely of DMR/nerfle.
And, if anything, wouldn't that be a possible reason that spawnkilling could have gotten worse? If firing performance is more optimized even for lower skill levels, then kill times will presumably become more homogenized, and the game will presumably lean more toward favouring first-shot-gets-kill, right? And spawnkillers usually have the drop, so... Yeah, I dunno. It seems like, if anything, a higher skill gap might be preferable. Yes, the tables tilt more easily, but they also probably wouldn't be as locked in post-tilting. That is, you might be more capable of accomplishing something meaningful.
