In Response To: Re: So. Default Reach Remains Default Frankie? (FyreWulff) : That's a lot of assumptions there. Just one (i.e. your opinion of the TU), and I'm afraid I overgeneralized it (see below). : No, I did not assume it was the title
Your original comment was months ago, and I'm sorry that I mis-remembered it. For the record, I went back to that original HBO thread, and found the posts from mid-August where the Frankie "Default Reach" quote came from. I read all of your posts and many others, and I don't think I have the whole story here. It looks like there's an entire conversation I missed on NeoGaf where you did a lot of research and had some interaction with 343 folk. From what you just said, you were told by 343 that there you didn't have the whole picture, and that there was more to the gametype. Well, from what I've seen from that old Damnation/Penance video and comparing it to playing ZB myself, there isn't any gameplay difference. But does that mean you were lied to? Perhaps when they said there's more to the gametype in terms of balancing, they didn't mean that the ZB DMR would change, they meant that the overall balance in the gametype would change. From a post of yours from that old thread, you were worried about how imbalanced the ZB DMR would become, and posted that perhaps a way to re-balance it would be to alter the rate of fire. If I may quote you, you said: "As it is, the DMR we have been shown with NO evidence to the contrary has no bloom and fires at the same rate as the old one. The pistol is now pointless. The AR still has bloom and will now be pointless to burstfire as the DMR user will be able to just spam you to death. Why even pick up a PR or Repeater? The DMR user will just cut you down across Boneyard, Spire, Hem, and well basically most maps since they won't need to pace their shots at range to hit you anymore. Add team fire into the mix and Hemorrhage games ALONE will just be people camping at the bases lest they get mauled by DMR fire upon leaving their shelter." These are all valid balance issues. Your vision of how 343 would balance the ZB DMR included altering the rate of fire in order to make the Pistol, Assault Rifle, Plasma Rifle, and Plasma Repeater viable weapons. Instead, 343 simply removed all those weapons except the AR. And no one is getting cut down on Hem, Spire, or Boneyard because those maps aren't in any ZB playlists. My point is, when 343 said you don't have the whole picture, there's more to this gametype that will help the balance, instead of meaning, "we are altering the game code in ways we haven't revealed yet," they might have meant "we are simply removing these weapons and maps that would cause imbalance." And that is a perfectly good way to achieve balance. Is Grifball balanced? Yes, because the weapons on the map (i.e. none) are tuned for that specific gametype. Would having a DMR or two on a Grifball map destroy balance? Yes, so of course they aren't included. Would having Plasma Rifle on ZB maps be pointless? Yes, so they aren't included. Like I said earlier, I agree with you in the assessment that the gameplay in the Damnation/Penance video exactly matches today's ZB gameplay. So that leaves us with two choices: 1) Frankie lied directly to fans' faces multiple times in a very public setting just weeks before launch of the code that he entirely knew the true contents of, OR 2) his comments were misinterpreted. : 343's already broken three promises they made. For the interest of clarity, can you please list them? Or even better, provide links/quotes of the promises? I assume one of the promises was the one I just responded to above, so what are the other two? : They pull the authority card
Like how they put back Premium/Squad Slayer when they realized it didn't work out? : They want all
While it's frustrating to not have your posts answered promptly or accurately, let's face it. The main people that are in charge of responding to posts are really in charge of keeping the peace and locking threads. They don't know anything. And when someone that actually knows (like Frankie or Ellis) comes along and tries to help you out, just remember that they are spending time answering questions instead of making Halo 4, tying up loose ends from the Bungie transition, and doing normal stuff like hanging out with family or friends. Stop giving them the benefit of the doubt if Halo 4 sucks, not when they're in the middle of the most frantic time in their company's history. : Right now the company comes across as wishy washy, unable to stand behind
Wait, you're saying the company that tore apart a multi-million-dollar game's code, tinkered around to create cool changes that many thought were impossible, implemented those changes during a time of mass upheaval and transition, and has been systematically spreading those changes into more and more playlists, even against the cries and rants of hundreds of angry fans is "wishy washy" and "unable to stand behind anything they do"? If anything, they are extremely strong willed and ballsy. : They outsource all their projects but are sure to put
Right now, we are happily enjoying an incredible remake of Halo 1's campaign with some awesome additions (terminals/skulls), playing on jaw-droppingly gorgeous new maps in Reach, all the while knowing that Halo 4 is less than a year away. This would not be possible without some outsourcing. So my question is, which is the best option: 1) 343 makes it's own DLC and Halo 1 remake. Halo 4 is delayed for another year.
We have fun toys to play with, so instead of complaining that they were made in China but sold under the Hot Wheels brand, let's enjoy the toys, and get excited for the new ones that are almost here. : I still appreciate them saving
I trust 343 enough to say that Halo 4 will restore your good will to you.
