What about Harvest?

In Response To: Re: Forget canon, what about the story itself (FyreWulff)

: As a player you have, canonically though you have not. Bungie actually
: establishes this well between Reach, 2, and 3: in Reach, Scarabs are just
: being deployed, so everyone just runs like hell when they're encountered.
: The Brutes have crap armor and are chaperoned by Elites. In 2 they've
: practiced against the Scarabs in simulation and now know how to take them
: down. By 3 Chief is now familiar with them enough (and has Arbiter
: assisting) that they don't need to corner them anymore and can just mount
: and explode them (ignoring the moving BSP -> actual AI engine support).
: By 2 the Brutes have more weapons and are gaining position, and by 3 they
: have their own suite of power armor.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but it seems there's an inherent flaw in your theory there... The Brutes were described as having power armor way back in 2525. It's not a case of Bungie going "Hey now, it seems like the technology's evolving", it's a case of Bungie going "newer is better".

Plus, another fact that kinda makes me wary of your argument... Those Spartans didn't have any qualms going into space to hijack a Covenant ship to destroy another, bigger Covenant ship. These were some of the first Covenant ships they'd ever have set foot on, and definitely the first they ever captured (as per RED FLAG). I seriously doubt they wouldn't be able to improvise when it comes to killing a Scarab. Bungie needed Carter to die, so they did it like this. They could've easily turned it into a situation where Emile and Six were actually vulnerable, but as we see, Carter's pelican fire is enough to momentarily distract it. They could've dashed forward and boarded the damn thing by the time it turns back around.

Kat's death can be explained a little better, but it should've been communicated a little better in the game. Just a simple line like "my shields are still down" would be plenty.

I think it'd be better if the next Halo game would avoid the "invincible ally"-routine, at least if they plan to have that ally die in the game. Have him/her show up at certain points in the game (like to end a firefight the player is in from above), give him/her a lot of time during cutscenes, that's how you get people to like them. Not by having them run around after the player, occasionally killing him with a Warthog, and remaining fixed in the same position, uncaring, when his mortal teammate dies.

Anyway, time to study. :lol
