: I guess I was thinking plain old eyeballs. I can see both but they appear
: like dots of light. I have seen the Galilean moons though binoculars
: though. When I was in my university Astronomy courses the university has a
: 40cm telescope on campus. It was cool to see Jupiter and its moons from
: there as well as the moon large enough you couldn't get the full moon in
: the view. :)

Yeah. When viewing the sky with the naked eye, the only objects you can perceive as discs are of course the sun and moon. Before the telescope, everyone thought the planets were simply strange, wandering stars.

As for the moon, viewing it through a telescope for the first time was awesome. You get to perceive it as an object with visible texture as opposed to a flat white and grey circle, especially when viewing the shadows in the craters along the terminator. Another object I like is the Pleiades cluster, which looks like a bunch of sparkly blue gems through a scope. Seeing Venus' phases is pretty cool, too.

Outer space is cool.
