I wasn't assuming they were all going to die, although I knew it was a possibility, and I kind of had it spoiled for me by the unboxing video.

I wouldn't call them crazy, and it had been established that there were other armor pieces out there.

Yes, and I don't like that. I also know campaign and multiplayer are separate but I like to have the same feeling of capability and indestructibility and everything else that goes with the Chief.

That's fine, but we don't see their shields fail, and since we've always seen that when it happens-- even in cutscenes, heck I think even earlier in the same game-- it's not immediately evident they were down (and it's not evident at all if you don't know that radiation tends to weaken them or you missed a line or two of dialogue). It's like "show, don't tell" except they didn't even tell us until the game was out and people started WTFing.

: 3.) Carter was already mortally wounded by this point.

Right, but... how? You start the level and all of a sudden you're almost where you need to be, which is fine, media of all kinds cut out boring traveling, but he's hanging on by a thread, and there's no evidence that's a natural progression from the last time you saw him, so you'd probably expect an explanation... and there isn't one given, for the rest of the game. So you have something life-threatening that's left completely unexplained, and the only purposes of which seem to be to set up a dramatic and intentionally emotional moment and get rid of a character (I say intentionally emotional because although it worked for me, it didn't work so well for some, and it could've been more affecting in a few ways). This is another case like above where they didn't show us or tell us, with the difference being that they still haven't told us and there isn't some dialogue or explosion right before that we can piece together is the cause. It seems cheap and lazy. I hope that's not what it actually is, but that's how it seems.
