Question on visibility in space.
Posted By: Postmortem <postmortem@forwarduntodawn.com>Date: 1/2/12 10:46 p.m.

I've been wondering, since I don't know too much about the actual mechanics of physics and light properties in space, how visible would Shield World Trevelyan be at various distances? It's easy enough to image if your within a few million miles... would probably look very similar to what was described in Glasslands. But what about beyond that? Does the way visibility works in space allow you to see crystal clear for light years, or would the curvature of Trevelyan fade out into the blackness much as mountains fade into grey/white as you get further from them, so that you could never actually see an abrupt end to it?
For example, it would be impossible for Trevelyan to ever appear visibly similar to the Forerunner planetoid at the end of Halo 3, right? With it's size, could it ever be that clear from far away?

I can imagine it would look quite clear if viewed through a telescope, but I'm just trying to wrap my mind around a spherical object as large as Earth's orbit suspended in space and having a hard time doing so.

Any help putting this thing into perspective?
