In Response To: Re: AI Script (dmiller) : Well, it's funny you brought up Buck on ODST highway, since that was one of : the levels that I was responsible for the design of. Our scripting doesn't : work like what you suggested (the priority). Generally, we have mission : dialog- which is stuff that we call based off of events (Buck, say this : line when the player hits this trigger volume)- and then we have Buck's : perception and combat modes. I've heard of many people say Buck is useless : on this level at certain points, but I have never seen or played a version : of the game that had this issue. Part of it that there are a ton of AI : around and Buck tends to focus on one thing or another, but just because : the player can see something in the far distance doesn't necessarily mean : can see it or that it's within his combat range. So, Buck's 'poor' combat : performance on this map is definitely not by design. Him yelling out : combat dialog in those cases shouldn't affect his targeting- unless I : specifically tell him to, which I'm pretty sure that's not the case. At every difficulty other than Legendary, Buck is great on that level. On Legendary, he's useless. A human gunner will target the wraith you get about halfway through - Buck focuses on Banshees that have already passed over you at that point. Your coop buddy figures out REALLY QUICKLY that the fuel rod grunts in the floating sniper perches should be top priority. Buck NEVER gets it. I've had him shooting at a pack of Covies on foot a quarter mile ahead of me, while my shields are being stripped by a Ghost I can nearly reach out and touch. And on and on.
