Going through Halopedia recently, finding the model numbers the UNSC gave the Covenant weaponry so I can check some facts in Isolation. And I noticed something which I should have seen earlier. The UNSC names Covenant weaponry according to the "Type-##" system. Whenever I've seen this (Imperial Japan and China, incidentally) it's named according to the year it was introduced. The Zero fighter for Japan, for example, was the Type 00, introduced in Japanese calendar year 2600. The UNSC must have named these weapons according to the year that they were first encountered. So, this means that: 2525: Chopper, Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle, Spiker, and Brute shot encountered by UNSC forces.
There are a few irregularities, such as melee weapons and grenades. These are not numbered in the order that they were encountered, but simply classified into a general category and given an item number. In addition, there are some irregularities with the introduction dates. Namely, the Spirit is apparently named the "Type-28" but was first encountered in 2525 (Contact Harvest). Of course, it was originally named the "Type-25", but that has changed recently... So, am I the late one to the party, or is this new to some people here? And another thing I've noticed: There's a Wilhelm Scream in the Halo Wars intro cinematic, 44 seconds in. Guy gets waxed by a Banshee, belts it out.
